SEKO Logistics has delivered two 92-ton transformers to the DEWA 260Megawatt Solar PV project, the world’s largest solar project.

SEKO was awarded the contract to move the heavyweight cargo because of its growing reputation in the UAE and Middle East region as a leading logistics service provider to the renewable energy industry. This is in addition to its significant solar business in the United States for both commercial customers and consumers, which most recently was one of the key reasons for SEKO’s decision to triple the size of its warehouse operations in California.

The transformers were shipped to Dubai to support the latest phase of construction at The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which will generate 260 megawatts (MW) of electricity by April 2017 using 2.2 million photovoltaic solar panels. The UAE government has declared that Dubai will build the capability to generate 5,000 megawatts of solar power to provide energy to one of the most iconic cities in the world.

TSK Group of Spain, one of the leading Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) companies, commissioned SEKO to provide the best logistics solution during the early stages of their planning. SEKO managed the project working closely with its local partner in the UAE, International Maritime and Aviation (IMA). Together, the team of experts involved in the transportation and delivery-to-site in Dubai completed a full risk assessment for the project to ensure the integrity of the 92-ton transformers and their safe delivery to the UAE.

Chaminda Gunasekera, Director Network Development – Middle East, Africa and Indian Sub Continent at SEKO Logistics, said:The delivery of two such heavyweight pieces of cargo represented another significant milestone for SEKO Logistics’ renewable energy services in the Middle East region. TSK had confidence in our ability to deliver the best logistics solution, which was a critical part of the whole project

SEKO is planning to expand its services in the UAE and the neighboring region by offering customers more technology and visibility solutions for their renewable energy projects.

Chaminda and the SEKO Logistics team were able to deliver the right solution to TSK. We experienced a very professional service by SEKO Logistics and their partners in the UAE and the transformers were delivered on-time and in perfect condition, said Mr. Raza Shahid, Country Logistics Manager, TSK, who is responsible for the supply chain for the 200 Mw project in Dubai.
