When you manage a 152,000 sq. ft. omni channel logistics distribution centre responsible for fulfilling thousands of customer orders a month for everything from cosmetics to fashion and accessories, you always have to be looking for ways to improve the efficiency of the operation.
It’s a fast-moving, dynamic business environment that needs a constant focus and at SEKO Logistics’ Milton Keynes DC, that’s the job of newly-appointed Manager, Steve Kavanagh.
As a Distribution Centre Manager with over 25 years warehousing and logistics operations experience both ‘in-house’ and for third party shared user providers, he sees the business from a customers’ perspective. Since joining SEKO in September 2015, he has already implemented a number of initiatives to further improve the efficiency of the facility and its team of over 80 people.
Steve says: “Obviously our aim is to consistently achieve the high standards of quality and service our clients demand. To achieve this we’re always looking for ways to do things in a better and smarter way. For example, we’ve redesigned the layout and flow of the Milton Keynes DC and relocated the production, returns and trade order areas. We’ve also reduced waiting times for the picking operation and led to an improvement in productivity, especially for e-commerce orders. Throughout the year we have a series of business peaks so another change has been to increase the size of the packing area of the facility to anticipate the higher level of activity we expect in the months ahead.”
